South Africa’s Hibarri, an innovative tech-driven commodity trading platform, is redefining the landscape of commodity trading in South Africa, positioning the nation as the "Switzerland of Africa" in this evolving sector.

Born from the Kruger Commodities trading team, Hibarri provides a streamlined digital solution for sourcing, comparing prices, and transacting commodities. Designed to be efficient and user-friendly, it serves both local producers and global buyers, empowering the South African export market through smart technology and simplified processes.

A Modern Platform for Diverse Commodity Trade

This digital commodity exchange platform delivers a seamless experience for trading a wide range of commodities - from agricultural products to energy resources and metals. With a comprehensive, user-focused database, Hibarri enables clients to find exactly what they need, whether its maize from the Free State or platinum from Rustenburg's mines.

“We are not just a marketplace; we are leading a digital revolution in commodity trading,” said Cherrylee Samson, Vice President of Hibarri.

Samson emphasizes that the platform’s mission is to bridge local commodity producers with international markets, ensuring South Africa’s rich resources are visible and accessible on the world stage.

Empowering South Africa’s Position in Global Commodity Trade

“South Africa boasts one of the most diverse commodity offerings in the world,” added Samson. “Through Hibarri, we’ve successfully positioned ourselves within the commodity and trade industry, driving international interest.”

To extend its influence, Hibarri has announced the launch of South Africa’s first home-grown commodity trade event in Cape Town - the International Commodity Summit (ICS2025). Expected to attract over 2,000 global participants, this landmark commodity summit will facilitate major trade deals, foster strategic networking, and spotlight South Africa as an African trade hub.

Connecting Africa Through Trade and Innovation

“Our goal is to unify all commodity sectors with targeted lead generation strategies and meaningful networking,” Samson said.

As South Africa emerges as one of the largest economies in Africa, Hibarri sees immense potential in strengthening its role as the continent’s trade epicenter. Cape Town’s strategic location, paired with advanced logistics infrastructure and a strong financial services sector, positions the country perfectly for international commodity trading.

Ports like Durban and Cape Town remain vital arteries for export operations, while industries like agriculture and mining reinforce South Africa’s export strength.

Strategic Alignment with AfCFTA and Global Agreements

South Africa’s active participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) further positions it as a gateway to African markets. Supported by preferential trade agreements with the European Union, the United States, and other global partners, the country has laid the foundation to attract foreign investment and establish a global trade network.

This year, with South Africa also hosting the G20 Summit, it is poised to take center stage in global discussions on trade, alliances, and sustainable industry development.

“Our abundant mineral wealth and commitment to green technology make South Africa a compelling commodity trading hub,” said Samson.

Export Growth and Economic Diversification

The country’s recent economic performance has been strong, with exports reaching R812.34 billion in early 2024. Hibarri believes this signals not only a potential trade surplus, but also the successful diversification of South Africa’s economy - crucial for long-term resilience.

As South Africa continues to build upon its strategic trade advantages, Hibarri remains at the forefront, shaping the future of how commodity trade in Africa is conducted.

Connecting Africa’s Commodities with the World

Whether you are sourcing agricultural goods, mining exports, or industrial metals, Hibarri offers smart sourcing, transparent pricing, and secure transactions - all through a scalable, cloud-based platform designed for local and global commodity traders.

Hibarri stays true to its core mission: making commodity trading in South Africa more efficient, transparent, and globally connected than ever before.
